The symptoms of corona virus vary from person to person. Depending on factors such as the immunity and the variant of the virus how bad the body reacts to it will differ. Most common symptoms for corona are dry cough, fever, muscle pain, fatigue, and shortness of breath, headaches and sometimes GI symptoms such as diarrhea. However symptoms also include losing your sense of smell and taste and loss of appetite, both of these symptoms alter are normal eating habits and how much and what we eat might change.
During this time according to doctors our body gets severely dehydrated so it’s very important to drink as much water as possible so that we do not face severe dehydration. It also depends if you have someone around you who can cook for you at home or what you might want to eat. So for everyone who suffers from Covid their diets will look different according to what they have available at home because during this time you have to stay at home. The most you can do is ask for someone to either drop groceries or cooked food at your door.
Since hydration is so important you can keep your body hydrated by not only water but also by having juice, electrolyte drinks, broth and tea with honey which will also boost your immunity and will calm your sore throat and cough. To support your immune system it is also important to eat protein, vitamin and zinc rich foods. Having soups, having things with ginger, having fruit smoothies are all example of food you can have to get better as fast as possible. It is also advised to have food that is easy to digest in case you have GI problems.
Talking about food that will boost your immunity there are specific nutrients in fruits and vegetables to help our immunity. An example of this is Beta-carotene which acts as an antioxidant and helps reduce inflammation, it is present in leafy vegetables, carrots and sweet potatoes. Zinc which helps defend our bodies from illnesses by boosting our white blood cells is present in pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, lentils etc. Vitamin C and Vitamin E are also very important as vitamin C acts as an anti oxidant and is present in fruits such as oranges, mangoes and strawberries and vitamin E helps convert the food we consume into energy and is present in green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli and seeds and nuts.
When people contract the corona virus they should have proper three meals of fruits and vegetables so that these nutrients can help the body fight the virus. Even though it is hard to eat because you lose all you appetite and when you cannot even taste the food you are eating you do not feel like eating like you normally would, so even in these circumstances you should push yourself to have the food your body requires to function or you will lose all the energy that is left in you.
Even though it is a hard thing to go through people should not lose hope and they should fight back and for that taking medicines only will not help, we need to put effort into what we eat and how much we eat and if it is hard to move around for someone they should keep a bottle of water next to them at all times so that at least they can stay hydrated.
For someone who loses their sense of taste they should not feel too bad as it will come back after some time and they can also take this opportunity to eat the vegetables they might not like but is good for their body and make sure that they eat three meals per day.
It is just important to hydrate yourself as much as you can and boost your immunity because once your are infected by the virus there is not much you can do aside from contacting your doctor for medicines and taking these steps at home.
