The Shah Burj block, which lies in the northwest corner of the Lahore Fort, contains the Sheesh Mahal. Sheesh Mahal is a sight to behold with lovely architecture, Mughal artwork, and mirror work, and there are also many more tourist attractions nearby. Near the Sheesh Mahal, there is another museum with some remnants of the Muslim Mughal era.
The Sheesh Mahal is located within the Shah Burj block in northern-western corner of Lahore Fort. It was constructed under the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631–32. The ornate white marble pavilion is inlaid with pietra dura and complex mirror-work of the finest quality. The hall was reserved for personal use by the imperial family and close aides. It is among the 21 monuments that were built by successive Mughal emperors inside Lahore Fort, and forms the “jewel in the Fort’s crown.”
Sheesh Mahal is a site to behold with beautiful construction and design of Mughal drawings and mirror work, moreover there are many other tourist spots that are located nearby. There is also museum near Sheesh Mahal that has some artifacts from Muslim Mughal history. The Sheesh Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan. It was built in the middle of Jahangir's rule. The façade, consisting of five cusped marble arches supported by coupled columns, opens into the courtyard. The engrailed spandrels and bases are inlaid with precious stones. The pavilion is in the form of a semi-octagon, and consists of apartments roofed with gilded cupolas and intricately decorated with pietra dura and convex glass and mirrormosaic (ayina kari) with thousands of small mirrors. At night they light candles.[8] The decorative features also include stuccotracery (munabat kari) and carved marblescreens in geometrical and tendril designs. The roof of the central hall rises up to two storeys. The hall was originally decorated with fresco paintings that were later replaced with glass mosaic in different colours
This fort has important heritage and culture importance due to it’s history, as Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan for his wife, so was Sheesh Mahal built for his wife during her stay in Lahore. Part from that it has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.
Many families come to visit here for a day out and some hire tour guide to show them around the fort.
شیش محل (لاہور قلعہ)
شیش محل قلعہ لاہور کے شمالی مغربی کونے میں شاہ برج بلاک کے اندر واقع ہے۔ یہ مغل شہنشاہ شاہ جہاں کے دور حکومت میں 1631-32 میں تعمیر کیا گیا تھا۔ آرائشی سفید سنگ مرمر کا پویلین پیٹرا ڈورا اور بہترین معیار کے پیچیدہ آئینے سے جڑا ہوا ہے۔ ہال شاہی خاندان اور قریبی ساتھیوں کے ذاتی استعمال کے لیے مخصوص تھا۔ یہ ان 21 یادگاروں میں سے ہے جو لاہور کے قلعے کے اندر یکے بعد دیگرے مغل بادشاہوں کی طرف سے تعمیر کی گئی تھیں-
شیش محل کے قریب ایک میوزیم بھی ہے جس میں مسلم مغل تاریخ کے کچھ نمونے موجود ہیں۔ شیش محل شہنشاہ شاہ جہاں نے بنوایا تھا۔ یہ جہانگیر کی حکومت کے وسط میں تعمیر کیا گیا تھا۔ اگواڑا، جو سنگ مرمر کے پانچ محرابوں پر مشتمل ہے جو جوڑے ہوئے کالموں کی مدد سے صحن میں کھلتا ہے۔ کندہ شدہ اسپینڈرل اور اڈے قیمتی پتھروں سے جڑے ہوئے ہیں۔ پویلین ایک نیم آکٹگن کی شکل میں ہے، اور اس میں ایسے اپارٹمنٹس ہیں جن کی چھتوں میں سنہری کپولے ہیں اور پیٹرا ڈورا اور محدب شیشے اور ہزاروں چھوٹے آئینے کے ساتھ آئینہ کاری (عینا کاری) سے پیچیدہ طریقے سے سجا ہوا ہے۔ رات کو وہ موم بتیاں روشن کرتے ہیں۔ آرائشی خصوصیات میں سٹوکوٹریسری (منابت کاری) اور جیومیٹریکل اور ٹینڈرل ڈیزائن میں نقش شدہ ماربل اسکرینز بھی شامل ہیں۔مرکزی ہال کی چھت دو منزلوں تک اٹھتی ہے۔ ہال کو اصل میں فریسکو پینٹنگز سے سجایا گیا تھا جسے بعد میں مختلف رنگوں میں شیشے کے موزیک سے تبدیل کر دیا گیا تھا۔
یہ قلعہ اپنی تاریخ کی وجہ سے اہم ورثہ اور ثقافتی اہمیت کا حامل ہے، جیسا کہ تاج محل شاہ جہاں نے اپنی بیوی کے لیے بنوایا تھا، اسی طرح شیش محل بھی اپنی اہلیہ کے لیے لاہور میں قیام کے دوران بنایا گیا تھا۔ اس کا ایک حصہ یہ 1981 سے یونیسکو کے عالمی ثقافتی ورثہ کے طور پر لکھا ہوا ہے۔
بہت سے خاندان یہاں ایک دن باہر گھومنے کے لیے آتے ہیں اور کچھ ٹور گائیڈ کی خدمات حاصل کرتے ہیں تاکہ انہیں قلعہ کے آس پاس دکھائیں۔
