The vast Cholistan Desert, also called Rohi in Pakistan, is a component of the Greater Thar Desert, which extends from Sindh province to Rajasthan in India. It is located in the southern region of the country. This is the most extensive and well-preserved chain of ancient forts. Its immense walls, which are supported by forty enormous buttresses (ten on each side), are now an indelible part of the desert landscape, rising out of the sand in the waning light of the day.

Cholistan means "Land of the Desert" since the word "CHOL" comes from the Turkish language and signifies "desert." Cholistani people have a nomadic or semi-nomadic lifestyle, moving from place to place and staying longer if they find water and pastures in abundance for their animals.
Cholistan desert hosts an annual Jeep rally, known as “Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally” which is the biggest motor sports event in Pakistan. This rally attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators from all over the world, with over 100 trained desert drivers driving modified automobiles. This was a fantastic endeavour on the side of the Pakistani government, and it has effectively established this territory as a part of Pakistan with its own culture.
Cholistan's culture is so distinct and lovely that it stands out totally. Men wear brightly coloured turbans, while ladies wear brightly coloured clothing with very subtle needlework, which is the area's specialty. Cattle breeding and related enterprises are the primary source of revenue. This supply meets the demand for milk, butter, and animal fats. There are around 1.6 million cattle in the area, which can easily be grown to a large number if the government makes specific efforts to improve the area's productivity.
There is a strong presence of the Seraiki language, which is a variant of the Lahnda dialect or Lahnda Languages cluster. This region is home to several sufi poets and saints, including Khawaja Ghulam Farid, who composed a lot of poetry in the Seraiki language and contributed to the development of this region's culture.

چولستان صحرا ایک سالانہ جیپ ریلی کی میزبانی کرتا ہے، جسے چولستان ڈیزرٹ جیپ ریلی کہا جاتا ہے جو پاکستان میں موٹر اسپورٹس کا سب سے بڑا ایونٹ ہے۔ یہ ریلی دنیا بھر سے لاکھوں تماشائیوں کو اپنی طرف متوجہ کرتی ہے، جس میں 100 سے زیادہ تربیت یافتہ صحرائی ڈرائیور ترمیم شدہ آٹوموبائل چلاتے ہیں۔ پاکستانی حکومت کی جانب سے یہ ایک شاندار کوشش تھی، اور اس نے اس علاقے کو اپنی ثقافت کے ساتھ پاکستان کے ایک حصے کے طور پر مؤثر طریقے سے قائم کیا ہے۔
چولستان کی ثقافت الگ اور خوبصورت ہے یہاں مرد چمکدار رنگ کی پگڑیاں پہنتے ہیں، جب کہ خواتین انتہائی باریک سوئی کے کام کے ساتھ چمکدار رنگ کے لباس پہنتی ہیں، جو اس علاقے کی خاصیت ہے۔ مویشیوں کی افزائش اور مویشیوں سے متعلقہ ادارے آمدنی کا بنیادی ذریعہ ہیں۔ یہ سپلائی دودھ، مکھن اور جانوروں کی چربی کی مانگ کو پورا کرتی ہے۔ اس علاقے میں تقریباً 1.6 ملین مویشی ہیں، جنہیں اگر حکومت علاقے کی پیداواری صلاحیت کو بہتر بنانے کے لیے مخصوص کوششیں کرے تو آسانی سے مویشیوں کی تعداد میں اضافہ کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
ان کی زبان سرائیکی ہے، جو لہندا بولی یا لہندا زبانوں کے جھرمٹ کی ایک قسم ہے۔ یہ خطہ کئی صوفی شاعروں اور بزرگوں کا گھر ہے، جن میں خواجہ غلام فرید بھی شامل ہیں، جنہوں نے سرائیکی زبان میں بہت ساری شاعری کی اور اس خطے کی ثقافت کی ترقی میں اپنا کردار ادا کیا۔
